| Welcome
Back! |
|
| Well, School
is back in session! Where did the summer go? I
am sure you were all busy with the children,
vacation, work etc, all the things that seemed
to have consumed the entire summer in a blink of
an eye! Welcome back and we look forward to
seeing you all again! |

Closet Update |
|
| It’s finally here! The St
Philip Foster Care Clothing Closet is now open!
St Philip and Mt Bethel UMC have teamed up to
help meet the needs of Cobb County foster and
adoptive care families. Members of both
congregations are providing gently worn clothing
and volunteer staffing. Harry Norman Realty
donated new packages of socks and underwear and
new backpacks for the kids. A Grand Opening
Ceremony was held on Tuesday, August 8.
Reverend Willie Green blessed
the facility and all who put in their time and
efforts. Kay Anderson, Director of Cobb DFCS cut
the red ribbon. Kay, Linda Campo, all resource
workers, many caseworkers and other volunteers
were in attendance. They have clothes in all
sizes for both boys and girls from newborn to
teenagers. There are dressing rooms to be sure
items fit. There is also a room of baby items
including strollers, infant car seats, baby
baths, etc. The current hours will be Mondays,
10 am- 2 pm; Tuesdays, 5-8:00 pm; and the 2nd &
4th Saturdays, 9 am-12 pm. This is something we
have all been asking for and we could certainly
use the donations. It is our hope that we, as
foster parents, show our appreciation by
actually putting this clothing closet to good
use. If you haven’t had a chance to stop by,
please make the time and check it out. You
may be surprised by what you are able to find
there. Did I mention that it is all free! Not
only can this take the initial burden off when
we get new children into our homes, but it can
help stretch our clothing allowance by
supplementing what we purchase. If you have
questions, suggestions, donations, or would like
to volunteer to help please contact Kathy Hoppe
@ 404-386-8317. She would love to hear from you
. 2400 Favor Road. The clothing closet is
located on the corner of Windy Hill & Favor
Roads, next to Osborne High School.)

Next Meeting is
Sept 7th. You don’t want to miss it!
Our
guest speaker is Patricia Sprinkle, a
published author living in our own back yard! A
native of West Virginia, Patricia spent her
childhood in North Carolina and now calls Georgia
home. Many of you will recognize her as she has
graced our meetings and served our organization
before. Patricia has penned both fiction and
non-fiction and many of you most likely know some of
her work. She is probably best known for “Women
who do too much” and “Children who do too little”
These companion books are the subjects of two
popular seminars for which she is in great demand.
She has been gracious
to donate her time to the association and present
her much requested seminar “Children who do too
little”. As school is back in session it is time
for us all to re-focus and meet deadlines, goals
etc. This seminar is sure to give you some insight
into motivating the children in your home. Some
quotes from past attendees of her seminar include: “Invaluable”,
“Gave practical, realistic information”, “Ideal
seminar” Don’t miss it!

Please Note:
Due to lack of funds/volunteers dinner will not be provided. We will provide
dessert and you may bring your own dinner if you desire. For several of the past
meetings, your board has provided dinner to you at their expense. If we can hold
a few fundraisers and get a good bit of participation, we may be able to have
our meals catered in the future. Or if there is anyone willing to head up a
“meal committee“ please
let us know!

Updates & Ongoing
Board Update: We have had two
Board Members resign their positions during the past few months. Our board
currently consists of officers only:
Gwen Charles—Co President
Ann Marie Miller—Co President
Vice President—Vacant
Karyn Ballard—Secretary
Laurie Strother—Treasurer
It seems logical that One of the Co-Presidents assume the Vice President
role. We will hold a quick re-vote of the membership to determine who will hold
the position of President & Vice President. In order to succeed as an
organization we need volunteers! Please consider joining us we need you! It is
our desire to partner with the community around us, make them aware of our needs
and realize the benefits of working together for the children in our care.
Please consider getting involved today! Join the board, volunteer to help on a
special project and/or please make suggestions! This association’s main purpose
is to support Foster and Adoptive families and we appreciate your input.
Treasurers Update: Currently FAPA has
$391.67 in checking and $759.89 in savings.
Computer Raffle: Ticket sales continue
for the computer and printer. To date we have sold 48. Many folks picked up
tickets to sell at the last meeting. Please turn in the $ for the sold tickets
and unsold tickets to Laurie Strother. Please pass the word, sell some tickets!
See Laurie Strother to purchase tickets. Feel free to sell them to your friends,
family and co-workers Etc.

ID CARDS
We will continue to issue ID cards to all
paid members of the Association. We are currently contacting local
businesses and soliciting their sponsorship in offering discounts to
foster parents. This ID card will make it possible for the business to
identify you as qualifying for the discount. Also, the ID cards will
identify you as members for the monthly meeting. We will be asking non
members to pay $5 per meeting from the August meeting forward.

It's Fund Raising Time!
As an organization we are very low on
resources. In order to effect change we are going to have to raise some
capital. We want to offer quality speakers and programs and provide
networking opportunities for the members. Our Fall/Winter fundraiser will be
putting together a cookbook. We are hopeful that this will be a joint effort
with DFCS. There is a cookbook company online that is very user friendly and
makes it really easy. We will receive a log in for the cookbook site
and you will be able to enter your own recipes and information or there will
be those of us designated that will do it. Please begin collecting your
favorite recipes right away. In order to have printing and editing time we
will need to begin inputting the information right away! If you would like
to be on the cookbook fundraiser committee, please contact Karyn Ballard @
770-633-1844.
